This weekend P and I are headed to Florida for some sun & some school -- I am presenting a paper at my first ever conference! Packing, of course, is agonizing, because I want to look cool for my (hopefully) future colleagues. I mean, I know the academy is not where one expects to find fashionable folks, and we graduate students are often the bottom of the barrel in terms of style (who has the time? who remembers how? ahh!) but still... clothes can boost confidence, and that is definitely necessary this weekend!
So... what's a girl to bring for three days of conference and a dash of southern sunshine?
1. black pencil pants
2. blue silk blouse
3. black patent flats
4. pencil skirt
5. gray cardigan
6. camisole
7. kitten heels
9. gray scarf (for air conditioned conference rooms... )
10. jeans & a few t shirts & sneakers for travel and exploring
11. sunglasses & jewelry
12. colorful jacket (because it will be "partly cloudy" at 74 degrees on Saturday. Ahhahaha!! Yes! This is the kind of weather we need...)
13. big purse (with a notebook & pen for all the brilliant things I'll hear other people say and maybe a tube of lipstick for some extra courage)
14. bathing suit (I can hope, can't I?)

| yes, this is a "big girl" swimsuit for kids... all the adult swim suit photos have... er... adults in them and I'm just not sure we are ready for that over here at the gracious gaze, we're a family blog after all. ;-) |
