Part of the project of this blog is to explore the idea of simple style -- including a simple closet.
The goal is to have fewer things that last longer, work harder, and are purchased smarter for a more peaceful wardrobe and wallet!
Peek inside the simple closet here.
A Simple Closet...
The big idea is, for me, to realize that a few things (rather than many, many things) can be more exciting and more than sufficient.
Not because the goods are scarce, or because I'm above things (obviously not), or because we shouldn't take delight, somehow, in the beauty around us (even in things, I think)...
Not because children are starving around the world (though they are, and by saving money by not buying more we can send it to folks like Bread for the World which is a great simple closet side effect)...
Not because we don't deserve to have or enjoy things (this kind of thinking is so dangerous)...
But because there is enough! Abundance! Plenitude! Beauty! Bounty! There is so much. I have so much.
And to feel totally taken care of and ready to face the world (judgmental and drab as it may sometimes seem) it may not actually require that much. Color? Yes. Beauty? Yes. Art? You bet! Function? Well, that is sort of the point.
I have this idea that if I find things that are the right fit for me & my life (and it doesn't hurt if they are in bright colors) then I won't need to have too many. What do you think about that?
